OBEDIENCE TRAINING CLASSES

Class Descriptions

Methods used for all classes are Reward Based, Positive Reinforcement, Clicker and Empowerment Training. We believe that training our canine companions is far more effective, longer lasting, and without a doubt, more fun when we apply science based techniques without physical punishment. Building trust with our pets means training without fear. Learn more about Positive Rewards Training. Learn more about Clicker Training.

PUPPY BE-GOOD

For puppies 8 weeks to 5 months.
Puppies have a lot to learn. We will focus on socialization with other dogs and people, teaching bite inhibition or 'Gentle Jaws', calming and handling, paying attention, good manners and kindergarten obedience. Our goal with these very fun classes is to lay the foundation for the prevention of potential future behavior and temperamental problems. Food lures will be used to teach puppy what to do, quickly phasing out the need for luring, relying on voice command and hand signals, yet promoting the use of food rewards for classical conditioning to teach dogs to thoroughly enjoy the company of people and other dogs.

Clicker training will be covered, clickers provided. Optional.

Requirements: Pups must be between 8 and 20 weeks of age at the start of class with 2 DHLPP vaccinations.

Classes meet twice a week for 3 weeks, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 pm to 7 pm.

Cost: $165.00

SPOT TRAINING

These classes are designed for graduates of Focus and Control or any previous obedience instruction. If you and your dog have gotten rusty on some basic obedience, this class is for you! Does your dog keep jumping on people? Won’t sit when asked? Pulling you down the street? Won’t come when called?

The Spot Training classes focus on these individual behaviors, helping you to get control of your dog. These are more in-depth training classes, using Animal Learning Theory, classical conditioning, getting and keeping attention and reinforcing good behaviors. Some classes will meet in the park or city locations for real world training.

Requirements: Must have had previous obedience training. This class is for well socialized dogs who enjoy the company of people and other dogs. Proof of current vaccinations required.

This is a 3 session class only! Buy a block of 3 classes and attend when you can. This is an ongoing 1 hour class, held on Wednesday evenings. Some classes will meet on Saturday’s or Sunday’s for the real world training exercises in a different location.

Clicker training will be covered, clickers provided.

Cost: $100.00 for 3 classes –MUST PRE-REGISTER

REACTIVE - GROWLY DOG CLASS - 4 sessions.

Do not despair - there is hope for your reactive or growly dog!

Often an embarrassment and concern to owners, dogs who over-react to other dogs are a special needs group. This class is for you if your dog barks, growls, lunges, snarls and snaps at objects or other dogs walking by, but is generally well behaved in most situations. If your dog reacts aggressively towards people, one on one private training is required (contact info@180dog.com).

Classes are small - usually 2-3 dogs at most and under very controlled situations. We utilize de-sensitization techniques and Counter Conditioning, wherein you will learn to modify the emotion your dog experiences when too close to another dog. Suppressing these emotions by using physical force or yelling will most often aggravate the situation.

A reactive dog can take some time before improvements are seen. This class will give you the tools to get started on the right path.

Clickers will be used in this class. Other training tools may be required.

First class is held without dogs. We will discuss training techniques, Animal Learning Theory, Classical and Counter Conditioning, demystifying the Reactive Rover, how to properly use the clicker.

Advanced Obedience are for owners and dogs who have gone through the FOCUS AND CONTROL, or have a good handle on basic obedience and would like to take it to a higher level, or permission by instructor.

This is the opportunity to perfect you and your dog's skills - like SIT, DOWN, STAY, COME, no pulling on leash, better focus and other commands - with distance, distraction and duration, taking it out into the real world, outside of the classroom. Beginning Agility and Tricks may also be incorporated. This is an informal, non-competitive fun class for dog owners who are committed and enjoy training with their dogs.

Training techniques used are Shaping and Capturing behaviors, using the clicker.
